Is it permissible to perform a prostration of thankfulness after every obligatory prayer, or is that considered an innovation?

Prostration of gratitude (Sujud al-Shukr) must be performed due to a specific reason, such as the repulsion of an affliction or the attainment of a blessing. Performing it after every prayer without a renewed cause is an innovation (bid'ah) and is not permissible.
