Is that which is differed over considered part of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, such as dyeing the beard black?

Scholars have differed on the issue of dyeing the hair or beard black, with some deeming it reprehensible (makruh) and others prohibiting it (haram). The preponderant opinion is that it is prohibited. There is no opinion that dyeing the beard black is an obligatory Sunnah. The difference of opinion among scholars on an issue does not mean that one has a choice; rather, those who are able should adopt the opinion supported by the evidence, and those who are not able should follow the most knowledgeable and reliable scholar.
