Is it permissible for men to tie their hair back, as one of the Companions did when another Companion untied his hair while he was praying?

The jurists disliked tying up the hair during prayer, based on the hadith: "This is like one who prays with his hands tied." The wisdom behind this prohibition is that the hair should prostrate with the worshipper. As for growing and tying up hair for men, it depends on what is customary among people. In societies where men do not grow their hair long, it is not appropriate to grow it long and tie it up at the back, as this involves imitating women and wicked individuals.
