What is the difference between a hypocrite and an apostate, and how does one become a hypocrite or an apostate, and what is the religious ruling concerning each of them?

The hypocrite is one who conceals disbelief while outwardly displaying Islam. He poses a greater danger to Islam than an open disbeliever, which is why he will be in the lowest depths of Hellfire. As for the apostate, he is one who disbelieves after having been a Muslim, such as someone who associates partners with Allah, denies Him, or rejects a matter known to be an essential part of the religion. The fate of both the hypocrite and the apostate in the Hereafter, if they do not repent, is eternal damnation in Hellfire. As for this world, the hypocrite is subject to the outward rulings of Islam unless his disbelief becomes apparent or is known through clear evidence. The apostate, however, is to be executed if he does not repent after being given a chance to do so.
