Is the patient one who seeks reward from God considered a martyr in the sight of God, or does this apply only to one who strives in the path of God?

Whoever is killed in the cause of Allah, patiently and seeking His reward, his sins are expiated, and he receives the reward of a martyr, except for debt. Similarly, whoever remains patient in a land where plague has appeared, knowing that nothing will befall him except what Allah has decreed for him, he will receive a reward similar to that of a martyr, even if he does not die from the plague. As for those who are patient from categories other than these two, there is no text that confirms martyrdom for them, even though the reward for patience is great.
