Is it true that one who sincerely asks God for martyrdom, and then dies in his bed, attains the reward of the martyr whose characteristics of reward are mentioned in the Prophetic Hadith?

Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will grant him the status of martyrs, even if he dies in his bed. This does not mean they are equal in all respects, but rather they share in the fundamental reward, not its entirety. The reward for an action and its intention is greater than a mere intention. Not all martyrs are of the same rank; the highest in status and greatest in reward is the martyr in battle against disbelievers. Allah grants a person the rank of martyrs due to his intention and his asking, and his inability to attain it [in battle]. Martyrs of battle have specific characteristics, including the forgiveness of sins with the first drop of their blood, seeing their place in Paradise, being protected from the torment of the grave, being safe from the Great Terror, having a crown of dignity placed on their heads, marrying seventy-two houris, and interceding for seventy of their relatives. Their souls are in the crops of green birds, roaming in Paradise. Some of these characteristics apply to other martyrs, such as protection from the trial of the grave.
