Is studying under a female teacher forbidden?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for a woman to teach men, provided there is no khalwa (private seclusion), tabarruj (displaying adornment), or khudu‘ bil-qawl (softening the speech). A young woman should not teach adult men due to the fear of fitna (temptation). As for children, it is permissible to teach them as long as they have not reached the age where they might incite desire (ten years and above). However, for an elderly woman (al-mutajalla), it is permissible for her to teach men without any reservation, while adhering to Islamic manners, because the likelihood of temptation is absent.
