Is dancing forbidden (haram)? Is a girl dancing alone in her house forbidden? What harm is there if she learns to dance in front of a mirror? Does this have any connection to jinn? And do jinn really fall in love with girls who have long hair?

The fundamental principle concerning women's dancing is permissibility, and there is no text that forbids it. However, it is prohibited if it is associated with unlawful acts such as music, or inciting temptation (fitna), or imitating immoral dances, or mixing with men, or if it is accompanied by revealing clothing. Scholars have permitted its prohibition as a means of blocking off the avenues (sadd al-dhari'a) that lead to reprehensible acts. Spontaneous dancing is permissible for a wife in front of her husband or in private, provided there is no risk of men seeing her. As for seductive dancing that resembles the actions of effeminate men (mukhannathun), it is forbidden for both men and women alike. There is no basis for what is mentioned about jinn falling in love with a woman who has long hair or who frequently looks in the mirror.
