Hatred has two meanings: The first is a lack of love without injustice or aggression. This is not blameworthy if it is for the sake of truth, and if it fulfills and perfects faith. It must be accompanied by mercy towards people, even non-Muslims, and this mercy includes desiring their guidance. The second meaning is animosity that incites injustice and aggression, and this is forbidden in Islam, which enjoins justice and benevolence even with those who differ. As for arrogance, it is a bad characteristic that elevates its possessor above the truth and diminishes the worth of others. Concealing the truth out of fear of not being loved by disbelievers is not humility, because that harms both them and the Muslims. Determining who enters Paradise or Hellfire is the sole prerogative of Allah, and a Muslim does not know what a person’s end will be, nor what is in hearts. A sincere Muslim is promised Paradise, but one who commits sins may enter Hellfire for a period to be purified, then enter Paradise. Islam is the only religion acceptable to Allah, and whoever follows a religion other than it will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment. One must sincerely and devotedly search for the truth in this worldly life, for it is a single opportunity for testing.
