Shouldn't we refrain from responding to the abuse of atheists and homosexuals towards Islam, and instead show them the beauty of the religion, and not hate them?

Hating atheists and those who commit indecencies is one thing, and cursing them is another. A believer hates disbelief and indecencies, but he calls their perpetrators to the truth, enjoins them to do good, and forbids them from evil, while safeguarding his tongue from obscenity and vulgarity. For a believer is neither a slanderer, nor a curser, nor obscene, nor vulgar. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade obscenity and vulgarity, even towards those who wronged him, as A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, did with the Jews who behaved disrespectfully towards him. He said to her: "O A'ishah, do not be obscene." And indeed, in Allah's Prophet Lot, there was an excellent example in his call to his people with wisdom and good admonition, despite their disbelief and their committing of indecencies.
