Is it permissible to eat from Chinese or Indian restaurants in Canada, and is what matters in this regard the religion of the state, or the owner of the restaurant, or the cook?

Islam has not permitted the consumption of meat from the slaughtered animals of non-Muslims, except for the slaughtered animals of the People of the Book, unless the method used in slaughtering violates Islamic law, such as electrical stunning or strangulation, or if it was offered to other than Allah. Investigation is necessary by considering the religion of the slaughterer and the method employed. If the slaughterer is Muslim, there is no issue. If the slaughterer is from the People of the Book, their slaughtered animal may be eaten, provided that the slaughtering is done by the customary method (cutting the two jugular veins and the esophagus). As for others, it is not permissible to eat their slaughtered animals. The criterion is the lawful slaughter (dhakāt shar‘iyyah), and after that, the religion of the meat distributor is not taken into consideration. If Christian countries supervise the slaughtering in a manner that does not violate Islamic law, there is no objection to suffice with that, unless proven otherwise.
