Is it permissible to deposit money in a current account of an interest-based bank?

It is not permissible to deposit money in interest-based banks, unless a person is compelled to do so in countries where no Islamic banks exist and he fears the loss of his money. In such a case, it is permissible to deposit money in a current account to the extent of the necessity, provided that one does not claim ownership of the interest and instead spends it on the welfare of Muslims. The safest course of action is to avoid these banks altogether.
