What is the logical explanation for the increase in calamities and the feeling of persecution when supplicating, which has led to the desire to abandon religion?

The answer can be summarized in several points:

Firstly: Diseases and calamities are not exclusive to a specific religion; rather, they are divine decrees that all human beings are exposed to, and they are not considered proof of the validity or invalidity of a religion. Allah Almighty has clarified that calamities are of two types: those that occur due to violating His religion (such as negligence in taking precautions), and those that occur to test the faith and sincerity of His servants. The believer benefits from these calamities if they endure them with patience, as they expiate sins and elevate ranks, as stated in the prophetic traditions.

Secondly: A person cannot escape what Allah has destined for them. Every calamity is recorded in the Preserved Tablet, and if the servant knows this, they will be patient and content, which brings about tranquility and inner happiness. A Muslim must know that this worldly life is fleeting and that the Hereafter is the true life, so they should work for it and reduce excessive preoccupation with this world.

Thirdly: People are still entering Islam in throngs and finding happiness in it, to the extent that some prefer death over apostasy from it, and this is proof of the validity and beauty of this religion. Meanwhile, disbelievers and atheists live in misery and wretchedness. Whoever leaves Islam because of worldly calamities will have lost both this world and the Hereafter. This is the state of those who worship Allah "on the edge," turning on their heels if afflicted by a trial.

Fourthly: The intention to become irreligious is an apostasy from Islam, and it will only lead to misery in the Hereafter and will not alleviate worldly calamities. Therefore, it is advised to return to Islam, utter the two testimonies (Shahadatayn), draw closer to Allah through acts of obedience, frequently supplicate, and consult a Muslim psychiatrist to address the psychological causes of these thoughts.
