Is a Muslim required to intervene with harsh words or verbal violence or physical intervention if foolishness in words and deeds reaches this extent? And is he sinful if he does so and involuntarily utters offensive words? And how can these foolish people be confronted?

The fundamental principle in Da'wah (calling to Islam), enjoining good, and forbidding evil is gentleness. However, this can be deviated from in the case of disobedient and arrogant individuals. Ibn Baz stated that those in charge of Hisbah (enjoining good and forbidding evil) must adhere to Islamic manners and gentleness, except with oppressors, the arrogant, and the obstinate, with whom deterrent force may be used. Forbidding evil with one's hand is for those who are capable, provided it does not lead to a greater evil. It is obligatory to guard one's tongue from insulting religion and to beware of mocking believers, especially because of their faith.
