How can one balance preoccupation with the world and its interests with preserving the strength and purity of faith in one's heart, especially in areas such as pursuing material knowledge, combining love for family with love for Allah, and avoiding the weakening of faith due to turning away from enjoining good and forbidding evil because of the abundance of transgressions?

It is befitting for a wise person not to neglect four hours: an hour for supplicating his Lord, an hour for self-accounting, an hour for his brethren who inform him of his faults, and an hour for permissible solitude for recreation. Likewise, he should not strive except for provision for the Hereafter, or for the rectification of his livelihood, or for permissible pleasure. Combining the benefits of this world with the happiness of the Hereafter is achieved through seeking reward (from Allah), having a righteous intention, and remembering Allah when seeking a livelihood. The love of one's wife and children does not contradict the love of Allah, for the love of Allah is the origin and the ultimate goal of faith, and whoever loves another more than Him is a polytheist. And it is incumbent upon the believer to ask Allah to renew faith in his heart.
