Is folding the prayer rug after praying, to prevent jinn from praying on it, based on a legitimate religious source, or is it an innovation?

This statement is a myth with no basis in religion, and it is not permissible to believe it, because the world of the jinn is part of the unseen, and nothing is known about it except what has been mentioned in the sacred texts. And if we were to assume that the jinn pray on an unfolded prayer rug, then leaving it spread out would be better, as the prayer of a Muslim jinn would be a blessing for the household. Perhaps some fathers say this to their children to encourage them to fold the prayer rug, but it is a lie that instills a false belief in children.
