Does the reward of the murabit remain for one who leaves Palestine to study, given his love for medicine and the availability of doctors in his country?

The science of medicine is one of the most important communal obligations (fard kifayah). Some scholars even consider learning it superior to an individual obligation (fard ayn) due to its widespread benefit. Its importance is no less than that of jihad and ribat (guarding the frontiers) in the way of Allah, provided the intention is sound. If a Muslim sets out to learn medicine, which is a communal obligation, it is as if he sets out to gain understanding in religion, for Allah says: "And it was not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious."
