Does the angels’ response to the one who curses cease if the cursed one says to him, "May Allah forgive you," or must one remain silent for the angels to respond, and will Abu Dharr’s reward for his action be lost by his saying to the Caliph, "So that it may not be said that chivalry has been lost among people"?

The hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, which states that the angel defends the one being cursed as long as he remains silent, and that the angel departs when he defends himself, is a weak mursal hadith, and it may be specific to Abu Bakr. The statement of the one being cursed, "May Allah forgive you," is not a self-defense, but rather it is more likely to make the curser cease his cursing. As for the story of Abu Dharr and the Bedouin, there is no knowledge of it.
