A sick person whose illness worsens with fasting, or who fears its worsening, or that harm may befall him: it is not permissible for him to fast. If he hopes for recovery, he should make up the days he missed. If his illness is incurable, then he must pay a (expiation) of feeding a poor person for each day, if he is able to do so. If he is unable, then there is nothing upon him.
