There is no objection to rejecting a suitor because he does not currently own a home, or to postponing acceptance until he provides one. It is not a condition for the husband to own the dwelling; it suffices for him to own its usufruct. Engagement is a promise of marriage, and it is permissible to break it for a valid reason. The decisive factor in accepting or rejecting a suitor is the girl herself, as long as she is an adult of sound mind. We advise accepting the suitor as long as he possesses good character and religious commitment.
