What is the difference between "ijtaneboo" (avoid) and "harrama" (forbidden)????

Abstaining (ijtināb) from something forbidden is more emphatic than merely using the word "haram" (forbidden), because it carries an added meaning of complete avoidance of the prohibited act. Thus, the Qur'anic expression "So shun it" (fajtanibūh) is more forceful in its prohibition than the word "haram," similar to "Do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse." Whenever the prohibition is severe, the expression of avoidance (ijtināb) is used, as in His Almighty's saying: "So avoid the uncleanliness of idols."
