Is it permissible to say that strict adherence to the Prophetic Sunnah divides Muslims, and is citing the Hadith of the Bedouin who asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about a deed that would admit him into Paradise valid in this context?

The Imam who describes a follower of the Sunnah as extremist or divisive has erred, for the Sunnah gathers people and unites them. It is the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, his sayings, and his actions, and it cannot cause division. Indeed, the people of Hadith were in agreement because they took their religion from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The reason for unity and harmony is the complete collection and practice of the religion, while the reason for division is the abandonment of a part of the religion. Accusing followers of the Sunnah of extremism is slander and a sin. The blameworthy extremism is making what is recommended obligatory or what is disliked forbidden, not adherence to the Sunnah. The Hadith that the Imam used as evidence (concerning the man who said he would not add or subtract from what Allah had obligated him) has been misunderstood. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught him the laws of Islam, and success is more likely for one who performs the obligatory duties and adds to them the recommended acts. It is necessary to preserve the commands of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, without exaggeration, and to apply the Sunnah with wisdom, without alienating people. Every Muslim must call for adherence to the Sunnah and convince those who blame them with a good approach, while keeping in mind that the benefit of uniting hearts in religion is greater than the benefit of performing recommended acts, and that sacrificing harmony and love for the sake of recommended acts is a mistake.
