The questioner's distress over his deviation and his fear of hypocrisy are indicators of his safety from doctrinal hypocrisy. This is because a servant's distress over his misdeeds and his fear of hypocrisy signify his faith, as stated in the : "Whoever is pleased by his good deed and displeased by his bad deed, that is a believer." Ibn Hajar narrated from Al- Al-Basri his saying: "No believer has ever passed away, nor does one remain, except that he fears hypocrisy. No one feels secure from it except a hypocrite, and no one fears it except a believer." As for the symptoms mentioned by the questioner, these are dangers for which solutions must be sought and from which one must repent.
