What is the ruling on someone who said to his wife: "You are half divorced," or "You are divorced from here to Syria," while he was traveling and was serious, not joking?

If a man says to his wife, "You are half divorced," or any fraction thereof, a full divorce occurs, according to the consensus of the majority of scholars. This is because mentioning a part of something indivisible in the context of divorce brings about the whole of it. If a man says to his wife, "You are divorced from here to Sham," it is considered a single, revocable divorce. Similarly, if he says, "You are divorced with the most severe divorce," or "the most grievous," or "the longest divorce," or "like a mountain," and so on, a revocable divorce occurs, provided he had no other intention.
