How do some people become rich through ill-gotten gains, when Allah is the Provider and does not facilitate the unlawful?
Allah Almighty is the Provider, and everything in the universe unfolds according to a predetermined decree. He facilitates the path of goodness for the righteous and the path of evil for the wicked. He opens the doors of worldly possessions for them as a test and a gradual enticement, in recompense for their persistence in falsehood. So, whoever is destined for happiness will be facilitated towards deeds of happiness, and whoever is destined for wretchedness will be facilitated towards deeds of wretchedness, in fulfillment of His (the Almighty's) saying: {As for him who gives and is dutiful (to Allah), and believes in Al-Husnâ, We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). But as for him who is greedy and thinks himself self-sufficient, and denies Al-Husnâ, We will make smooth for him the path to evil (hardship)} [Al-Lail: 5-10]. Thus, Allah rewards those who intend good with success and those who intend evil with abandonment, and all of this is by a predetermined decree. And Allah's granting of worldly possessions to a servant despite their disobedience is a gradual enticement, as He (the Almighty) said: {So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened for them the gates of every (worldly) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment of that which they were given, We seized them all of a sudden, and lo! they were plunged in destruction with despair} [Al-An'am: 44].
