How can one fulfill the atonement for an oath (kaffarat al-yameen) of feeding 30 destitute persons, for someone who lacks the financial means or the ability to fast, and is it permissible to appoint another person to fulfill it in another country, and what is the fate of someone who dies before fulfilling it?

The expiation for an oath is to feed ten needy persons, or clothe them, or free a slave. If you are unable to do so, then you must fast for three days, and it is more cautious for them to be consecutive. It is permissible to give the expiation for multiple oaths to the same needy persons. If fasting becomes obligatory for you immediately, do not delay it except for a legitimate excuse, such as illness, and it is not permissible to delegate someone to fast on your behalf. It is permissible to appoint someone to feed on your behalf, even from their own money, with your permission. If you are unable to feed or fast, the expiation remains a debt upon you until you are able to fulfill it.
