Is it permissible to give the usurious interest acquired from the bank to the indebted brother who supports a large family, in order to pay off his debt resulting from purchasing a plot of land to build a house?
Depositing money in banks with interest is a forbidden act and a major sin. It is only permissible in cases of extreme necessity, and one should only use a current account without interest. Whoever has fallen into usury must repent and cease the sin, and dispose of the interest by spending it on charitable and good causes. It is not permissible for him to benefit from it for himself or for anyone whose maintenance is obligatory upon him. It is permissible to give these interests to a needy brother, provided that his maintenance is not obligatory upon you. If his maintenance is obligatory upon you, then it is permissible to give him the interest to pay off his debt, not to cover his expenses.
