Is it permissible for a scholar to burn his books that contain noble Prophetic hadiths, especially since they contain much good and may not be found with others, as some respected scholars have done?

Some scholars might recommend burning their books after their death, fearing a lack of sincerity in their composition, or because they were drafts not yet refined. This is what Sufyan al-Thawri did, as he instructed his nephew to erase and bury his books. This does not mean the will be lost, because Allah has guaranteed to preserve His religion. Al-Thawri's students, in fact, transmitted his hadiths from the books of Sunnah.
