What is the ruling on a woman shortening her hair to shoulder-length or shorter for the purpose of beautification or to facilitate styling?

It is permissible for a woman to cut her hair if it does not involve imitating men or disbelieving women. The wives of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to do so to lighten their burden, while some scholars have prohibited cutting hair except out of necessity.
