Good companionship between in-laws is a religious requirement, and a husband severing ties with his wife's family is detestable. It is recommended to reconcile differences, for if reconciliation occurs, the issue of the suspended divorce is removed, because the reason that prompted the oath affects it.

It is not the husband's right to prevent his wife from communicating with her family, and obedience to him in this is not obligatory, especially concerning her mother. If the husband intends, by his oath, to sever the wife's ties of kinship, then obedience to him is not permissible, and she may make him break this oath of divorce, and this does not render her unlawful to him.
