What is the ruling on the percentage taken by the workshop owner in exchange for providing a workshop for a technician? And do its rulings resemble those of brokerage?
If a person intercedes for another and directs him to a workshop to work in exchange for a percentage of the profit, this is called brokerage (simsarah), and the percentage of brokerage from the profit is a matter of scholarly disagreement. However, if he establishes a workshop for him and provides its equipment with his own money for him to work in exchange for a percentage of the income, then we hope there is no harm in this. This is similar to Mudarabah (profit-sharing partnership), as some jurists have permitted giving a person a machine to work on for a percentage of the income, and this is what was given preference in previous fatwas.
