How sound is the attribution to the Companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal of the saying, "Speak little to people, and speak much to your Lord, perhaps your heart will see Allah"?

No origin has been found for the aforementioned statement attributed to Mu'adh ibn Jabal or any other Companion, Tabi'i, or scholar. Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri mentioned it in his "Risala" using the weak form "it is narrated," which suggests its feebleness and lack of authenticity. It is not an authoritative proof, as he mentioned it without a chain of transmission. Furthermore, the book "Al-Risala" contains many fabricated hadiths and forged reports.
