What is the ruling on returning from a trip before the appointed time without informing one's wife, in order to surprise her?

It is disliked for a traveler to come to his family suddenly at night, lest he see something from them that he dislikes, and so that they may be prepared to receive him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade a man from entering upon his family at night, so that the absent wife can prepare herself and the disheveled one can comb her hair. However, if his arrival is known and expected by his family, then there is no harm in his arriving whenever he wishes.
