The answer

If the house belongs to the wife's family and the guests are their guests, then her family members are the ones who should receive them. The husband should not prevent his wife from receiving her family's guests with them in the house if they are women or mahrams, lest it engender resentment. However, if the reception of guests leads to a sharia-prohibited act, such as if they are non-mahram men, or if he fears that it will corrupt her, then he has the right to prevent her; because he is commanded to safeguard her and prevent anything that would corrupt her, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "Men are in charge of women."
