What is the ruling on receiving compensation for donating sperm to an entity that uses it solely for scientific research and does not extend its use to anything that leads to the mixing of lineages?

It is not permissible to take compensation for semen because it is a waste product that has no legal value, and a condition for sale is that the item sold must be a valuable asset. The Sacred Law has prohibited the earnings from a stud animal (meaning its semen), as narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Semen has no value according to Islamic law, and there is disagreement regarding its purity or impurity. According to the opinion that it is impure, it is not permissible to sell it. A fatwa has been issued prohibiting the taking of payment for it.
