What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a financially capable husband who obliges his working wife to spend on herself and on the household, only spending a small amount to cover basic necessities, and collects her money to buy luxuries for himself, while disregarding her clothing and basic needs, knowing that the wife is aware of his dislike for her helping her family?

Stinginess is a blameworthy trait that Islamic law has forbidden. Islam has encouraged generosity and spending, promising reimbursement to those who spend, while threatening ruin to those who withhold. Islamic law has emphasized the husband's spending on his family in a reasonable manner, promising him a great reward for doing so. It has also permitted the wife to take from her stingy husband's money what suffices her and her children in a reasonable manner. As for a wife spending from her own money on her family without her husband's knowledge, it is permissible. She should be patient with her husband's stinginess, advise him gently, and seek Allah's help.
