What should a wife do with her husband who is characterized by extreme stinginess towards her and their children, and who claims to be in debt to justify his stinginess, in addition to lying to her and abandoning her?

Stinginess is a blameworthy trait that Islamic law has forbidden, whereas generosity and munificence are beloved by Allah and His Messenger. It is the right of the wife and children to be provided for adequately. If a husband provides for his family adequately, he is not considered stingy. If he does not, then he is stingy. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted the wife to take from her stingy husband’s money what is sufficient for her and her children, in a reasonable manner, without his knowledge. The questioner is advised to be patient, gentle in advising her husband, and to seek help from Allah.
