Does a husband not bear responsibility towards his ex-wife who spent her life serving him, and he divorced her at an age when she cannot earn a living and has no children?

When a man divorces his wife, he is not obligated to provide for her anything other than the mut'ah (compensatory gift) or nafaqah (maintenance) and housing during her iddah (waiting period) if it is a revocable divorce, or to pay off any financial rights she has, such as deferred mahr. As for the divorced husband being a provider for his former wife if she is incapacitated and has no provider, this is not obligatory upon him; rather, it is obligatory upon the Bayt al-Mal (Muslim treasury). However, it is an act of kindness and loyalty for him to do so within his means, following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in honoring the friends of his wife Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) after her death.
