Does God answer the prayer of a disbeliever if they pray for guidance for themselves?

Scholars have differed regarding the acceptance of a disbeliever's supplication (du'a). Some are of the opinion that Allah does not accept it, citing His saying, the Most High: "And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error" (Quran 13:14).

Conversely, the majority of scholars hold that Allah may accept it, citing the generality of His saying, the Most High: "Is not He who responds to the distressed one when he calls upon Him?" (Quran 27:62), and other verses that mention the answering of disbelievers' supplications in times of hardship, as well as the generality of the prophetic tradition: "Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah."

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that Allah answers the supplication of the righteous and the wicked, the believer and the disbeliever. As for the verse cited to argue against acceptance, the majority of exegetes believe that it refers to the disbelievers' supplications to their deities and idols, or their supplications on the Day of Resurrection.

The most preponderant view is that Allah may answer the supplication of a disbeliever, especially if they are distressed or oppressed.
