What is the meaning of Sadaqah (charity), and when is it obligatory and for whom? And must Sadaqah be money, or can it be necessities that benefit the poor?

Charity (Sadaqah) is used to refer to the. obligatory Zakat, and it includes the prescribed Zakat due on gold, silver, livestock, grains, fruits, and trade goods. It is disbursed to specific categories as mentioned in verse 60 of Surah At-Tawbah. It also includes Zakat al-Fitr. Sadaqah also refers to voluntary acts of kindness and benevolence towards those in need and others, whether for the needy (which is preferable) or the wealthy, or by establishing charitable projects that benefit others.
