Is a husband permitted to hit his wife to wake her for Fajr prayer after gentle methods have failed?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to delay the obligatory prayer beyond its prescribed time, and sleeping through the Fajr prayer is a grave sin. The husband must rectify his wife's religious observance and character, for Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire." If the wife insists on disobedience, scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of striking her. However, if striking is permissible, it should only be resorted to if the husband believes it will be beneficial, and provided that the striking is not severe or violent.
