What is the meaning of their saying, "marfoo'an" (raised)?

A marfu‘ hadith is one attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: whether it is a saying, an action, or an approval, regardless of whether its chain of narration is continuous (muttasil) or discontinuous (munqati‘). A munqati‘ hadith is one where a single narrator is missing from its chain before the Companion, in one specific spot.
