Does the son have a right to his father's wealth, and is he entitled to impose anything on his father concerning it?
A son is not permitted to hold his father accountable for his financial dealings or to impose his opinion on him, as this is a lack of proper conduct and an act of disobedience. This is because a son has no authority over his father's wealth as long as the father is of sound mind and mature judgment. However, if the discussion is in the form of advice and consultation for the benefit of the father and his wealth, conducted respectfully and without overstepping boundaries, then there is no harm in it.
If the father is not of sound judgment and squanders his wealth in ways that harm him and his family, then it is permissible to place him under interdiction by the ruling of a legitimate judge. Ibn Qudamah said: "His wealth should not be handed over to him before the existence of two matters: reaching maturity and sound judgment; even if he becomes an old man. This is the view of most scholars."
