What is the ruling on placing a crystal in one of the front teeth, and does its presence affect the validity of ritual ablution (wudu) and major ablution (ghusl), knowing that the tooth was drilled for its placement and its removal would cause disfigurement to the tooth?

If the facet is placed to meet a need, such as strengthening a weak tooth or correcting a defect, there is no harm in placing it or keeping it, based on the hadith of Arfajah ibn As'ad who adopted a nose made of gold after his paper nose rotted, and on the statement of Imam Ahmad regarding the permissibility of binding teeth with gold out of necessity. However, if it is placed for beautification, such as drilling a tooth to implant a crystal, this is not permissible because it is altering Allah's creation, and it must be removed immediately unless its removal would cause harm or apparent disfigurement. In the latter case, repentance and seeking forgiveness are obligatory, and it is permissible to keep it. Regarding ablution (wudu') and ritual bathing (ghusl), the presence of this facet does not affect them according to the majority of scholars, as rinsing the mouth and sniffing water are Sunnah and not obligatory according to the Malikis and Shafi'is. According to the Hanbalis, it is not obligatory to fill the mouth and nose with water; a minimal amount of water circulation suffices. As for the Hanafis, they mandate filling the mouth in ghusl, but they make an exception for cases where there is hardship.
