What is the ruling on treating teeth by drilling and filling them, or by crowning them with platinum or porcelain?

There is no harm in dental treatment such as fillings, crowns, and bridges, and the like. The basis for this is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) permitted Arfajah ibn As'ad to fashion a nose of gold to replace his nose which had been injured. Based on this, scholars permitted the use of a gold nose and the binding of teeth with it. A small amount of gold is permissible for men when necessary, such as for binding teeth or similar cases where nothing else suffices. However, using gold for teeth as an adornment for men is forbidden. Permission is granted only out of necessity.
