Would it be considered an act of disobedience (ʿUqūq) if I disobey my parents by refusing their insult of my wife, knowing that they threaten to expel me from the house if I defend her?

Filial piety is among the most incumbent of duties. One must accompany them (parents) with kindness, even if they command polytheism, so what then if they treat one well? Their obedience is restricted to what is good and not in disobedience to Allah. It is not obligatory to obey them in matters that bring them no benefit or that harm the child. Therefore, it is not considered kindness to obey them in humiliating the wife, and it is obligatory to provide her with independent housing if possible. The parent must be reminded not to invalidate his charity by reminding others of it or by causing harm.
