Is it considered disobedience (ʿuqūq) for children to refuse to live with their father who does not provide for them except by court order, and does not grant them their rights, especially since the father has another wife whom the children do not wish to deal with?

Filial piety and kindness towards parents are obligatory under all circumstances, no matter how much they may err. It is also a father's duty to provide for his children; this is an obligation upon him and a right for them. The extent of this provision depends on his means and societal norms. Obedience to the father is obligatory if he commands something that is beneficial to the child and poses no harm. Thus, if the father commands that a part of the holiday be spent with him, obedience is obligatory, unless the children fear harm. It is not permissible for a father to neglect his children's rights because they have fallen short in fulfilling his rights.
