Love for Allah, or in Him, or for His sake, means love for His religion, obedience to Him, fulfilling His commands, and refraining from His prohibitions, seeking His pleasure. This is part of the essential loyalty a Muslim owes to their believing brothers and sisters. Al-Akhdari Al-Maliki said: "It is obligatory upon him (the accountable person) to love for Allah, to hate for Allah, to be pleased for Allah, to be angered for Allah, and to enjoin good and forbid evil." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified the great reward of love for the sake of Allah, mentioning that among the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade on the Day when there is no shade but His, are: "Two men who loved each other for Allah's sake; they met for His sake and separated for His sake." And he said: "My love is guaranteed for those who love each other for My sake and those who visit each other for My sake." He also said: "Three qualities, whoever has them will taste the sweetness of faith: that Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else, and that he loves a person only for Allah's sake."
