The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, when she was six years old, and consummated the marriage with her when she was nine years old. Aisha was engaged to Jubair ibn Mut'im before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Islamic law does not specify a particular age for marriage; rather, the age of eligibility for marriage varies according to circumstances and environments. Islamic law permits marrying off a young girl, provided she is not handed over to her husband until she reaches an age where she can withstand intercourse. This is agreed upon by Imams Malik, Al-Shafi'i, and Abu Hanifa.
