What is the ruling on selling the hide of the sacrificial animal: should the sacrificer keep it or give it away as charity, and is it permissible to give its value away as charity?

The correct view among scholars is that it is not permissible to sell the hide of the sacrificial animal or any part of it, whether for household use or otherwise. One may, however, gift it, give it in charity, or utilize it for personal benefit. This is the view of Malik, Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. It is narrated from Ahmad that it is permissible to sell it and donate the proceeds. Abu Hanifa said it is permissible to sell whatever one wishes from it and donate its proceeds. Al-Hasan, Al-Nakha'i, Al-Awza'i, and a narration from Ahmad said: There is no harm in using its value to purchase household items.
